I need some career advice..

Hello,

First I'd like to congratulate the entire TeamTreeHouse for the outstanding website and all of the versatile learning opportunities you all provide. The whole website and concepts are really encouraging and helpful.

My name is Tim Hilley, and I took a course in college (C Basics) that made me fall in love with programming as a whole. I am at around 1000+ points in the Java Courses in your website, and I've decided I prefer the language instead of C.

And.. that's all I have. I don't know what job opportunities I would want to pursue, or where to start considering. My question is this: If I know I want to be a Developer (hopefully so that I can work from my laptop and travel, but that's a minor hope), where should I start looking for Internships or job specifics after I learn everything that I can in Java and relevant languages from the website, starting with the courses and ending in the TechDegrees.

Having a real goal at the end of the tunnel would also help with motivation. I'm already enjoying the whole skill, but knowing my future would be helpful.

Thank you for taking the time to read all of this, I'm not sure how this sounds. I am just at a loss when it comes to where I should end up.

stackoverflow is a good resource for help when you have questions, but it also has a job posting section where you can search up jobs based on language, skill level, locations and a bunch of other parameters.

I also did a lot of youtube searching for things like 'coding interviews' and skills to develop to start a career in programming.

I'm sure other more experienced developers will have great, detailed advice for you, but I wanted to comment on this tidbit that you wrote -

"...hopefully so that I can work from my laptop and travel, but that's a minor hope" - that doesn't have to be some far fetched dream. :) Check out Chris The Freelancer's channel on youtube for inspiration and links to a bunch of resources on the Digital Nomad lifestyle/ remote work around the world.

Maybe start with this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8iBcfwmX3Y&t=836s for a loose roadmap of a track to take to have a marketable web dev skill set, and adjust accordingly to your interests and job availability in your city/the city where you'd want to work.

That's the kind of stuff that motivates me to keep going, maybe it will do the same for you. :D

I didnt want to sound posh by saying i wanted to be a digital nomad, but thats exactly what I want to do. I wont to be able to travel for the rest of my life, china, scottland, all that, while working consistently with programming and maybe even creating an online business that creates passive revenue. Thanks, ill check out the videos!

Becoming a digital nomad seems great, but the specifics are foggy to me on how to start the path. My first step was teamtreehouse.
