20,986 PointsIt all comes down to the reason you're learning this in the first place.
For instance, I jumped into the WordPress Development track because I had things I knew I had to accomplish using WordPress and would thus require a lot of custom development.
So not only did I learn from the track and courses in the track, but I was applying what I had learned in projects I needed to work on and finish.
So, do you want to be a content manager in WordPress? Do you want to do custom development such as building themes or plugins? Do you have things you'll be working on in the future that require you to have this knowledge?
As long as you have your purpose behind why you're learning it in the first place, then figuring out how deep to dive into the subject gets pretty easy to figure out.
If you're worried about applying what you learn from these courses and retaining that knowledge, then either have an active project, professional or personal, that will allow you to apply what you've learned.
