How would I remove customizer options on the Genesis Framework?

I use the Genesis Framework and also watched the course on Genesis in the Treehouse library, but there was no mention of how to remove unwanted options in the Genesis customizer. I looked in files for the parent theme and found the following file: customizer.php but it looks different to the functions.php file that is being edited in this tutorial.
