How well should I know HTML/CSS for full stack development?

How well should I know HTML/CSS for full stack Javascript development? I am also planning on continuing on to Ruby and Rails after learning Javascript. How good of an understanding should one have of HTML and CSS before getting an entry level development position?

I wish I could tell ya!

I've been wondering the same thing myself. I am very comfortable with html, css, and full stack js (node, react, etc), having created tons of side projects using only those. But I haven't even tried applying for jobs yet because there always seems to be more to know.

I would suspect an advanced knowledge of html/css is mandatory for any web dev, but it would be great if any employed web developers could answer.

Even before that, when could I say I'm ready for small projects on sites like Upwork? Aaron, you likely could start doing some freelance work. Start cheap and as your portfolio and skills increase, so should your price.

I was also once wondering whether I should learn more before doing a real project or whether I will be job ready for a front end position? So what I did was, I volunteered myself to create a website for my school 80th Anniversary even though I only have little knowledge at that time.

Yes, I was nervous at that time as I was given only a few weeks to complete it and yes I manage to complete it. It was not my best work to be honest but I was happy.

As long as you understand what you code, that would be more than enough. Don't understand, ask in a forum or google it. I'm sure theres a solution.

I'm still a librarian for my school but I plan on finding a front end position in the future when I'm done with the front end track :)
