Java Java Arrays Iteration Looping Like These Programmers

how to make a for loop with numbered list? Using un-enhanced for loop for this excercise.

Im not understanding the errors I'm getting. Also I'm tying to make a list but it won't work.

Programmers.java
public class Programmers {

  public void printMenu() {
    String[] programmers = {
            "Yukihiro Matsumoto",
            "David Nolen",
            "Grace Hopper",
            "Linus Torvalds",
            "You"
    };

    System.out.println("Choose a programmer:");
    // TODO: Print out a menu by looping through the programmers array.
    /*
      The menu should be in the form of (each on a line of its own, starting with 1):
      1. Yukihiro Matsumoto
      2. David Nolen
      ...
    */
    for (int i = 0; i < programmers.length; i++);   {
      System.out.printf("%d. %s %n", i+1, programmer);
    }

  }

}

I see two issues:

  • there's a stray semicolon between the for clauses and the open brace of the code block
  • the printf referrs to programmer, but nothing by that name has been defined

For that 2nd issue, did you perhaps intend to write programmers[i] ?

I can't find the stray semicolon, but programmer was a typo. I meant to type programmers to use the names from the list of programmers since I think it was declared. I edited my code but now it will only print the first name and stop there. Teamtreehouse says I forgot to add a newline but Im not sure what that means. I removed %d and i+1 so I can focus on getting the list to show first, then I will number it later.

    for (int i = 0; i < programmers.length; i++);   {
//                                              ^
//                                              here's the stray semicolon
