How to increase your chances in getting internships for IOS development.

I've been applying to a couple internship positions for IOS development but have had no luck. Most require or highly desire CS or engineering majors and unfortunately I have major in sociology. Are there certification programs or any other way to strengthen my resume for internships other than just "treehouse courses"?

Sorry I don't have any bright ideas. I would create a small website and then build a portfolio of apps to showcase. It would also help if you had something published in the app store.
