I've accidentally deleted a couple of files from the home directory, and now can't follow the video to the full extent of its capacity to teach me. Could you please tell me how can I reset the console emulation workspace so that it is in its original state?

I think you'll have to get an administrator to do that for you, although you might suggest an option within the toolbar of the console that will enable you to reset the console emulation as that is a good idea. Shoot an email to help@teamtreehouse.com and they will help you.
