i dont know how to start the switch statement nor do i know how to append the values in a dictionary to the array at the start

You need to start the switch statement by switching on the key in the dictionary. You then append using the normal append syntax
var europeanCapitals: [String] = []
var asianCapitals: [String] = []
var otherCapitals: [String] = []
let world = [
