I just started using treehouse, and although its a nice program, I really want to learn to code. Is all the information about how computers and the internet work really important? If so, how much time does treehouse spend on digital literacy?

if you want to learn code then just jump straight in to learning a track.
I'd recommend beginning the 'Front-End' track and beginning by learning HTML.
I have a job in a Front-End position and I couldn't tell you how IP addresses work!

When I started on treehouse on my other account I only did web development (PHP/CSS/HTML/JS). A year later I have gone over some business, Java and android courses.
There are too many courses on here to be doing ones that are not relevent to what you want to do. I would say find out what you want and just start it (Preferrebly do a "track" to get you in the right direction)
