How do I use fonts on Intellij?

I installed the font "Varela Round", and I put it in a directory called 'fonts' in my resources root. When I try to style some text with this font, nothing changes and the font is not being applied to the text. This is because Intellij is telling me that the extension '.ttf' is not associated with any file type. How can I use this font!?
