How do I get the included project files i.e. portfolio.png's to scale down to a size similar to the mockup?

I am adding the .png's for my project into my HTML but cannot figure out how to make them smaller using CSS or media queries. The native resolution for these images is 1280 x 720 pixels and they appear to be much smaller in the mockup files that we are supposed to be imitating.
