How can I make an add function, where I add two arguments together, and then return the total?

I am struggling on an easy question. How can I make an add function, where I add two arguments together, and then return the total?

trial.py
def add(num1. num2):
    Total = add(2 + 8)
    Return(total)
 def add(num1, num2):
    return num1 + num2

You are calling the function and assigning it to the total variable before any addition is done on the numbers
