JavaScript Build a Simple Dynamic Site with Node.js Creating a Simple Server in Node.js Creating a Simple Server

Hostname?

I am using this code to get the server going.

Right now I am trying to figure out what should I do with the parameter hostname in the server() function. Should I just erase it ? Or should I leave it there?

The video tutorial is erasing this parameter.

const http = require('http');

const hostname = '127.0.0.1'; const port = 3000;

const server = http.createServer((request, response) => { response.statusCode = 200; response.setHeader('Content-Type', 'text/plain'); response.end('Hello World\n'); });

server.listen(port, hostname, () => { console.log(Server running at http://${hostname}:${port}/); });

There are several versions of "server.listen" that take different arguments and are used in different situations. The video shows the single-argument version, but this code is using a different one.

For more details, see the node documentation for server.listen.
