957 PointsHelp with the punchline
I was able to do the while loop with some help. However I am now struggling with the second half of the question.
/* So the age old knock knock joke goes like this:
Person A: Knock Knock.
Person B: Who's there?
Person A: Banana
Person B: Banana who?
...as long as Person A has answered Banana the above repeats endlessly
...assuming the person answers Orange we'd see
Person B: Orange who?
...and then the punchline.
Person A: Orange you glad I didn't say Banana again?
(It's a really bad joke that makes it sound like "Aren't you glad I didn't say Banana again?")
Let's just assume the only two words passed in from the console from Person B are either banana or orange.
*/
// ====BEGIN PROMPTING CODE====
// Person A asks:
console.printf("Knock Knock.\n");
// Person B asks and Person A's response is stored in the String who:
String who = console.readLine("Who's there? ");
// Person B responds:
console.printf("%s who?\n", who);
// ==== END PROMPTING CODE ====

so this ends with;
console.printf("%s you glad I didn't say Banana again?", who);
You did the hard bit!!

Thanks for trying, I managed to figure it out in the end.

57,712 PointsHi Krupa,
What's the second part of the question you're struggling with?
Steve.
Krupa Patel
957 PointsThe second part to it is to print out the punch line after the while loop completes, using the who variable. I've tried a few different things but none of them have worked
Steve Hunter
57,712 PointsI'm not familiar with the challenge so am not sure what the 'second part' is. But, from the specification I've seen, there are only two possible answers for the do ... while
loop. You've covered off one of those, which makes the loop iterate constantly, so the only other outcome wil require you to output the punchline - there are no other possible scenarios?
I'll have a lok now and see what's what ...

And Steve, the answer is:
// ====BEGIN PROMPTING CODE====
String who;
do {
// Person A asks:
console.printf("Knock Knock.\n");
// Person B asks and Person A's response is stored in the String who:
who = console.readLine("Who's there? ");
// Person B responds:
console.printf("%s who?\n", who);
} while(who.equalsIgnoreCase("banana"));
// ==== END PROMPTING CODE ====
console.printf("Orange you glad I didn't say banana again?");

57,712 PointsAh, you missed a little trick there. You added "Orange" into the output string; which is fine. But you could have added the value held within the who
variable, since that is 'orange', and concatenate that with a %s
.
But, yes, that's the solution.
