Help please

Why would the contain method not work

ScrabblePlayer.java 
public class ScrabblePlayer {
    private String mHand;

    public ScrabblePlayer() {
        mHand = "";
    }

    public String getHand() {
       return mHand;
    }

    public void addTile(char tile) {
        // Adds the tile to the hand of the player
    mHand += tile;
    }

    public boolean hasTile(char tile) {
      if(mHand.contains(tile)) {
        return true
      }
      else {
        return false;
      }
    }
}

the following works:

    public boolean hasTile(char tile) {
       if(mHand.contains(""+tile)) {
        return true;
      }
      else {
        return false;
      }
    }

contains seems to expect a character sequence type, not an individual character. Converting the character to a string lets you use contains.
