iOS Swift Basics Swift Types String Manipulation

Having trouble with strings.swift coding challenge task 1 of 2

I declare the name constant and greeting constant and write the strings as instructed, but get confused when it asks me to do the interpolated greeting.

strings.swift
// Enter your code below

let name = "Paul"
let greeting = "Hi there"

let interpolatedName = "\(greeting) \(name)"

1 Answer

Hello Paul. The challenge wants us to use string interpolation for greeting. Therefore, we use:

let greeting = "Hi there, \(name)"

This is because we are interpolating the variable "name" into another variable. We use the backslash escape character, so that it is not a string value. For task 2, we just concatenate the variable "greeting" with the string literal provided.

let finalGreeting = greeting + " How are you?"

Hope this helped!
