The best place to start with a portfolio site is the work that you're going to put there. You should narrow down a portfolio based on the quality of work (only include your best stuff) and you should also make sure that you're including work you wouldn't mind doing again. I say that, because often times a freelancer will end up serving a niche vertical market. Let's say you build a website for a local farmer's market and you display that piece on your site. You might suddenly find that many other farmer's markets in the area are contacting you, either because of your portfolio, or by word of mouth in that industry.

The work in your portfolio really determines a lot, such as what types of navigation links to include, and so on. At the very least, you need to show your work and provide a way for people to contact you.

I actually wrote an article on this: http://iamaaron.com/blog/design/your-most-difficult-client-yourself.html . Don't worry, you aren't alone. The most difficult client you are going to do work for is yourself. It may take some time to finish a portfolio website, but ultimately you will finish it!

Some advice for a design, pick out something unique about yourself and really emphasize that on your portfolio website.

thank you Aaron i read your article, and i appreciate your help, thank you again

I haven't watched many of the career videos but I'm fairly certain that they give advice on portfolios and marketing yourself.

I feel like I've seen some content on the gold side that covers this topic as well but I'm not certain.
