Gradient color stops

I just finished the Css Basic course, but there is one things i dont understand really well. The gradient color stops, can someone explain to me, what exactly the percentage mean in the color stops. I know its changing the position of each color, but how? I still dont understand it. I hope someone can explain to me very detailed, thank you so much!!! And waiting for your guys reply.

The percentage sets how far across the gradient that the color is completely changed. But no explanation will be as good as some first-hand experimentation. There are many online tools to make gradient creation easy and fun. Here are a few examples:
