Background Information
I just completed my 37th step for the day and got ...
Well dont, Dave.
Keep going to meet your goal!
1/3 steps complete
Questions
- What is my 'goal' can I look it up anywhere? It doesn't seem to tell me on the screen what my goal is, just that I've reached 'step 1'
- Assuming this goal 1 was meeting 37 steps for the day, who arbitrarily decided this was a good 'step 1' goal? Or is it an average of my daily steps to date? Or is 'step 1' of my goals absolutely nothing to do with my step count? ( multi-question question )
- Can I change these goals anywhere?
I look forward to any meaningful feedback/insights,
Dave.

231,269 PointsI believe the "goals" are always 3 steps/day. And once you've done 3, the counter resets so after the 4th it says you reached 1 of 3 again. Same with the 7th, 10th, 13th, ... etc. It doesn't seem to retain an actual "daily" count, and you can't set your own goal number.
The behavior you are suggesting sounds like a nice enhancement. It might be worth suggesting directly to the Support folks.

Nope, there is nowhere to look up the Goals as you progress through the courses. These are designed more for quick motivational goals that can be reached in ~15 minutes. Sometimes you will see that you have completed 1/2 or 1/3 and sometimes even 1/4 depending on the course, length of videos, number of quizzes / challenges.
I've found that it generally tries to keep your "Daily Goal" in the 15 to 20 minute range. However, when you complete one, it just creates another one. So you do steps 1, 2, and 3. You get the "Congratulations!!!" and when you continue, a new "goal" is there with a few more steps.
This feature was added a while back, to be honest, I never even really notice it. I do agree, however, that it probably helps many students that are a bit more time pressed than I am. It's just a way to motivate students to do at least 15 - 20 minutes of study everyday.
If you're more disciplined, you could create your own daily or weekly goals are what you'd like to accomplish. For example, you could look at the course overview and say you want to complete the entire first section by whichever day. Or you could just keep up with the Auto goals by Treehouse. Whichever benefits you the most is what is best.
Keep Learning! :)
