191 PointsGlitched workspace?
The end tag for everything, regardless of element, automatically appears as
</a>
(for example
<nav>, <li>
and other things that shouldn't have that end tag), and part of my index.html document is highlighted in red. Any idea why this is happening?

Courses Plus Student 17,967 PointsHere is your current code. I have put comments on all the issues I see.
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title> Becca | Designer </title>
</head>
<body>
<header>
<a href="index.html> <- there is no close quote after .html->
<h1>Becca</h1>
<h2>Designer</h2>
</a>
</header> <-You close a header here and below ->
<nav>
<ul>
<li><a href="index.html"></>Portfolio</a></li> <- you have a close tag associated with nothing ->
<li> About </li>
<li> Contact </li>
</ul>
</nav>
</header> <- This is your second close header tag ->
<section>
<p> Gallery goes here. </p>
</section>
<footer>
<p>© 2015 Becca Kirlew.</p>
</footer>
</body>
</html>
In summary, an open quote with no close, a close tag with no associated open or element, and two close header tags. When I fixed those issues in your snapshot there was a good preview.

Courses Plus Student 17,967 PointsHighlighting in red means there is something that the editor does not recognize as valid code. It is not always right, but usually highlights an error.
With respect to the tags, I have not heard or seen that before. I suspect you have an unclosed anchor somewhere causing all of the problems. You can copy and paste your code (see what I did to your post to format it properly) or you can make a fork snapshot and post the URL. Make the snapshot by using the camera icon in the upper right corner of the workspace. Follow the steps to open the snapshot and post the url here.
