Giving your website a theme

I am looking for a course that helps me give my website a personal touch. I am using bootstrap and many custom widges, but it is missing a theme. Like Treehouse has a theme. Wondering what is the best course /method.

If your plans are to become a designer then it should be your job to come up with a theme. However if like me your going the Developer route and design skills are not great then I would scour the web for awards for web design and also theme forest and get inspired or you could just purchase a theme. If you want to learn to be a better designer them the design courses are a good start goes through colour theory and well everything about design from layouts to logos and even every tool in illustrator. This may be a good place to pick up little bits.

Thanks, I am also more on the developer site. So naturally the color theories and everything aren't something I would focus on. Maybe it is just a matter of getting a designer on-board.

Yeah I mean for projects that need a certain design or have a big emphasis on design it may be a good idea. But I would also practise putting your own designs together as some clients may not have a clue and just want something relatively nice. Also have a look at other frameworks such as foundation. A little understanding of design principles may go along way if only ever used when prototyping you never know you may have a design flair :)

if this is your own personal website then surely a brainstorm about what makes you you should help. even if you ultimately get a designer on board he would probably like you to have some ideas and keywords that he can transfer into a design.

pen and paper is probably your best friend. bright, loud, quirky or elegant, somber ... your turn! I think Adam is right in suggesting to look at other sites and see what appeals. but if you want a theme that describes you, well then you have to describe yourself and your services.

Hi Niels, I would recommend you a http://line25.com Web Design Blog, where you can find stunning website examples, which are very trendy and give you imagination about modern and really good-looking web design. As many sites you check,as more ideas you can get for your personal touch. You can have so many courses you want but this "right" design feeling comes only with practice and analysing another works.
