Development Tools Git Basics Getting Started With Git Committing Changes

git add on PC doesn't work

I'm listening to Git Basics course and in the 'committing changes video', I'm trying to add the README file i've just created using "git add README" but it gives me this error "fatal: pathspec 'README' did not match any files". although i found the README.txt file in that location.

try

git add README.txt

maybe?

It gives me another error: "fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git"

But actually i removed the .txt and it worked but i don't know if this is the best solution or what

hmm are you sure you actually initialized a git repo in your projects root?

yes i forgot to initialize it because i created a new project to test on. Thank you and thanks for your quick reply as well :)
