JavaScript Setting Up GitHub and GitHub Desktop

General questions about Github

Hello!

1) In the video, Share Your Projects with GitHub Desktop, I see that the teacher has a menu bar at the top (file , edit, view,...), my Github Desktop does not have this menu at the top. What can I type or press to get my GitHub Desktop to display this menu bar.

2) When I downloaded, GitHub Desktop from the link in our classroom, it didn't ask me to create a username and password. Where should I go to create a username and password?

3) Also, my GitHub Desktop did not give me the option to Install Command Line tools? Where can I go to get the exact option as the teacher?

4) However when I go to the Start menu of my PC, I see icons like: 1) Git Bash 2) Git CMD
3) Git GUI 4) Git Shell. Do I need these applications or should I remove them from my PC

5)From my Github Desktop, when I added my Unit one projects, I was hoping to have all the files under one repository, but I ended adding and creating under the same repository name, 2 seperate repositories named 'Project 1 Treehouse'. One Project 1 Treehouse has the 3 files (under one folder), about, contact, treehouse and the other Project 1 Treehouse has 3 files (under one folder), main.css, normaliz.css and responsive.css. How can I re add the two folders with their respective files all at once so that under Project 1 Treeshouse, I see the 2 folders with their respective files?

6)In GitHub Desktop and GitHub, it is possible to run and view the code?

7)If first we have to write code, save an upload them to Github Desktop to ultimately create a repository to put the code on GitHub, why does the GitHub online version have a create a repository option? Can we create a repository straight from Github without uploading a file?

thanks

Hi, are you using Windows? If so it's very likely that your process deffers quite a lot from the one that's teached on macOS. For example Windows doesn't have the same Command Line tools.

Hey there!

If you haven't received all the answers to your questions yet, as a Techdegree student, I'd highly recommend signing up for the Full Stack JavaScript Slack community and asking there. You should have received an invite upon registering for the Techdegree. If you need a hand with it, please let Support know at help@teamtreehouse.com.

It would make more sense for Treehouse to answer her question here, rather than sending her on a wild goose chase on how to set up GitHub on a windows machine and connect to your Treehouse account.
