Hello, I want to see if I am understanding this correctly.
gallery li { float: left; width: 45%; margin: 2.5%; background-color: #f5f5f5; color: #bdc3c7;
Are we setting the width of the list item or it's content? To my understanding img {max-width:100%} allows Images to fill their parent element so when we set the width:45%; for the li element, the image is filling the width of its container.

16,500 PointsYou are absolutely correct.
Your descending selector of .gallery li targets the li's within gallery.
When dictating the width of the target, the img's max-width will fill that 45% li 100%.
