In the @function per-line ($items) , is the name of the function something predefined in SASS, or does the author choose the the name (say, could have been "per-row")? How do I know this particular function accepts the "$item" parameter and not, say... "$feature"?

Treehouse Moderator 91,253 PointsYou can name functions anything you like. :-)
It can be any sass identifier but be aware when using separators like -
and _
names like sass_function
and sass-function
are one and the same.
