Float clearfix

Is always true that the use of floated elements for layout is to be avoided if we don't need to support IE9 or lower?

I wouldn't say avoided, float still has its uses in specific situations.

But I would agree that modern display/positioning properties in HTML5 and CSS3 have pretty much left floated elements redundant.

I stopped supporting anything below IE9 in my own personal work a long long time ago so it hasn't really ever been an issue for me in my layouts.

I will get the odd job occasionaly normaly for some kind of internal website for a company that requires float layouts because their internal bespoke applications require IE6 to work etc.
