Error when generating a react native app: No git binary found in $PATH

When trying to install a react native app, i see the error: Please check if you have git installed and in your PATH. and also: No git binary found in $PATH and finally also: undefined ls-remote -h -t ssh://git@github.com/expo/react-native-maps.git.

I don't really know what i'm looking at here, I do have git installed, as I installed it with the github desktop manager on windows. i am new to react and cmd directory creation, could anyone give me some tips on what I should do? thank you!
