emulator isn't showing up

ok so i managed to set everything up although i am using the latest version of android studio which is 2.2.2.0 and when i go on the design tab on the activty_main.xml file, the emulator doesn't show up, i'm not sure where i went wrong, i downloaded the project files from the previous windows and opened them on android studio and everything was working great except for the emulator, can anybody help? i'd really appreciate it

The emulator won't show up until you start it. Click the AVD Manager in the menu, choose one of the virtual devices listed, and click the play or run button next to it. It will take time to start up, depending on the hardware of your PC. You can follow the progress at the bottom of Android Studio where you see a loading bar while the emulator is warming up.
