can someone help me figure out what i am doing wrong thanks!

you have three blocks here: try, except, else. what you are TRYing to do is cast the number as floats, so that's what goes in the try block. next, if that fails, you want to deal with the exception, so you have except VE, return None. lastly, if casting to float works, you want to return the sum, so in the else part return the sum.
