4,882 Pointsdot notation confusion on Computed Properties
/* It says you have to make an instance but when I try to assign an instance to a variable I get an error but the direct instance works for SomeStructure.computedTypeProperty. Why and what is the difference? */
struct SomeStructure { static var storedTypeProperty = "some value" static var computedTypeProperty: Int { return 1 + 1 } } SomeStructure.computedTypeProperty // this works
let compute = SomeStructure() compute.computedTypeProperty //this wont work

6,443 PointsHi Ingo!
The problem is the word "static". Usually, you call methods/properties on instances. However, if you set something as "static", you call it on that data type (structure, class). Get rid of that word and you'll be able to call it on instances :)
