dispenser.characterName = "Darth Vader";

How does this line store a new variable and rid of the String variable in the PezDispenser class (set as Yoda)? Isn't the object dispenser supposed to use the PezDispenser class as its template?

The template is being used during the creation of "dispenser". This happens at the "new" keyword. But once "dispenser" has been created, it can now be handled independently. In this case, the characterName attribute is being changed from "Yoda" (what it was at creation) to "Darth Vader".

This change happens only in "dispenser" and does not affect any other object of the same class.
