Difference betwwen URI & URL?

If you could mention what is difference betwwen URI & URL?

Why in style.css file we use URI instead of URL? In the Theme URI instead of URL

URI is the location of resource into our computer(the path in order author of site to reach resource into his/her computer) while URL is the location of a resource into web? (in order someone user to view the resource)

URI -- Uniform Resource Identifier URIs are a standard for identifying documents using a short string of numbers, letters, and symbols. They are defined by RFC 3986 - Uniform Resource Identifier (URI): Generic Syntax. Generic Syntax. URLs, URNs, and URCs are all types of URI.

URL -- Uniform Resource Locator Contains information about how to fetch a resource from its location. For example:

http://example.com/mypage.html
ftp://example.com/download.zip
mailto:user@example.com
file:///home/user/file.txt
tel:1-888-555-5555
http://example.com/resource?foo=bar#fragment
/other/link.html (A relative URL, only useful in the context of another URL)

URLs always start with a protocol (http)and usually contain information such as the network host name (example.com) and often a document path (/foo/mypage.html). URLs may have query parameters and fragment identifiers.

could you mention an URI example, dont understand what you mean identifying documents using a short string of numbers, letters, and symbols.

Usually identify the path of a document localy/server using numbers,letters,symbols?

URI dont use any protocol as URL(which use to identify a resource location)?

One can classify URIs as locators (URLs), or as names (URNs), or as both. A Uniform Resource Name (URN) functions like a person’s name, while a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) resembles that person’s street address. In other words: the URN defines an item’s identity, while the URL provides a method for finding it.
