Design tips (www.jaspapps.com)

Hi guys

I am redesigning my personal site. My goal was to make it look somewhat funky. I think the typography might need some improvement maybe. Please look at the site and give me some tips, I could use some help of experienced designers.

Thanks in advance

Fun! Great work so far! It's so great when folks try and have fun with there personal sites.

There are a few things though that struck me as a user. First the animation is very slow. You have to wait for it to finish before you can even access anything on the site. Animations are great! But when they get in the way of user experience it can be a negative thing. I'm not saying you shouldn't have any animations! But maybe simplify what you have. Instead of dropping the nav down from the top of the page, it could simply just do a small bounce where it is when the page loads. Or instead of the nav bouncing, your name could bounce! I would also reconsider animating your text and content, once again the timing is a little long, and it can take away from what you have to say.

You already mentioned the typography, and I agree, it could be better. The last thing I'd like to add is to change the mouse hover for each nav button, so that it's clear that you can click on them.

Keep up the awesome work! :)

Thanks Kristopher!

I agree on the animations. I may have overdone them, but I was having so much fun creating them. Typography is indeed not my speciality. Do you have any tips on improving it?

No problem!

And that's great!! You SHOULD have fun with it. Experiment and have with things as often as you can. When you're ready for you and your site to be taken seriously, that's when your site should be a tad toned down and more professional. Even then you could totally have a project site that you showcase that's dedicated to fun and funky things like animations. The best thing I can say for typography, is do your research. Here are a few links that I just found that can shed more light than I can. A few are a bit repetitive. But good points to consider nonetheless.
