19,201 PointsWhen designing poster I tend to stay with one of a few sizes. For smaller informational posters for small business the tabloid dimension of 11x17in is usually enough. If a poster is for a higher traffic area for a bigger event, or movie, 20x30in or 24x36in fits nicely. Cost and printer is also a factor when choosing sizes. A couple other tips and hints:
- Trying keeping any text or copy about an inch away from the edge of the poster, margin.
- If the background color or and image is going to extend to the edge of the poster add about an 1/8in bleed around the poster. A bleed in print is an area that you add to the final dimension of the print to account for any minor errors in the printing process, for example printing to the edge of page can be troublesome. The bleed gets trimmed giving you your final dimension.
- Try and use the CMYK color model.
- As for fonts it really comes down to the aesthetic of your poster but try display type sans-serif fonts.
