Treehouse Moderator 91,253 PointsDatabase Foundations Vs SQL Basics
Howdy all, It's been a while :)
Now then I'm finding myself at a bit of an impasse over the Database Foundations course.
When I left it last, I was about half way through this course only as I knew I was moving house and changing computers I didn't bother downloading the SQL software until tonight.
Tonight I had a go and I've found a couple of problems.
The SQL Workbench software appears to be missing from the download and isn't in my set and the SQL notifier isn't letting me stop and start the server.
Now this could be because I opted not to download the same version Andrew did in the videos. My reasoning for this is because I would only be prodded to update as soon as I did. I went for the up to date software.
SQL Basics Even so, is it worth me stopping here and just going for the SQL Basics course? Will this offer up to date software to look at? what are the differences?
Thanks :)

Treehouse Guest TeacherSQL Basics will have no downloads but the scope is a lot more focused from Database Foundations. Database Foundations will be replaced by several new SQL courses.

5,601 PointsDo these "several new courses" include NoSQL a.k.a. MongoDB?
Andrew Chalkley
Treehouse Guest TeacherMongoDB is coming after the Angular refresh by Huston. There's several SQL courses too :)

Treehouse Moderator 91,253 PointsThanks Andrew,
Would you recommend completing Foundations in the meantime and redownloading the software to the version you use?
I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 4GB Ram

Treehouse Moderator 91,253 PointsThanks Andrew will do that then.
I thought I might have been able to access SQL through phpMyAdmin in XAMPP but that's not working either. :)

Treehouse Guest TeacherYeah, it shouldn't matter how you access it, the main thing you should take from the course is the syntax.

Treehouse Moderator 91,253 PointsYea I'm glad I finally got round to doing the course. I have a bit of history with SQL when I did a module back at college nearly 10 years ago now, so I'm picking up the basics as a nice refresher. So it's good to do this and to know there's more SQL material coming up. In the meantime I have lots of SQL to clear off my computer before I try again. :)
Phew, I think I've managed to get it to work now, though it was a bit tricky I can't shake the feeling that something will flap up somewhere down the line. Thanks again Andrew and I look forward to finishing the rest of the course.

1,878 PointsAndrew Chalkley, It's been awhile since I've taken a TTH course and can't seem to fine the database foundations course. I wanted a refresher on how to install and use MySQL Workbench, that section of the course was really helpful.
Is there anyway I can still view that course?
