Customizer isn't changing

I've followed along on all of these videos and my customizer isn't changing. I did manage to get the header and background image parts working, but thats all.

I can't change sections, panels, or control titles. Can't add new sections. Can't change any text or defaults.

I'm wondering if this has something to do with the theme slug. I can't find much info on the theme slug. Is there a way to determine if you have the right one and if it is working?

Any other reason why my customizer isn't working?
