Creating this project with a modern version of .NET Core

I'm trying to follow along using the latest version of .NET Core. Things don't quite line up, but here's what I've figured out so far:

  • Instead of running dotnet new, I should run dotnet new console
  • Instead of adding a dependency to project.json (which no longer exists), I should use Visual Studio to add the corresponding nuget package.

However, when I try to run my application (either through F5 or dotnet run), it immediately opens, then closes. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
