Java Adding Dependencies

Could not find method compile() for arguments Gradle

Not a question but an answer from an issue I ran into hoping it'll help others.

The compile dependencies didn't work based on the video and it's because I have a newer version of Gradle.

The compile, runtime, testCompile, and testRuntime configurations introduced by the Java plugin have been deprecated since Gradle 4.10 (Aug 27, 2018), and were finally removed in Gradle 7.0 (Apr 9, 2021).

The aforementioned configurations should be replaced by implementation, runtimeOnly, testImplementation, and testRuntimeOnly, respectively.

I changed the compile to implementation and it worked.

Hi, the Groovy syntax is deprecated for the newest version of JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA.
