CorelDraw as an alternative to Adobe Creative Cloud?

So, I'm a recovering Creative Cloud guy and had this thought: the suite by Corel as I'm discovering is just as good as Adobe and without the subscription. Would there be any way it could be done as an alternative to the Cloud courses that I'm pretty sure will be coming? I'm not suggesting in place of but as another option. I for one just didn't like the subscription terms and find that Draw/PaintShop/VideoStudio are solid alternatives (good for freelancers too). Just a thought, I notice that there;s not much in the way of third party courses on the new X7 stuff and figure this could be a benefit to have.

Hi Erik,

CorelDraw is a fantastic software and one that I highly recommend people to learn. Yet, it has serious limitations when compared to the ubiquity of Adobe products as a whole. Unfortunately the cloud isn't going anywhere and I presume almost every software company will continue in that trend for their services.

I can't speak on what sort of software courses Treehouse will choose to adopt in their course loads. Though as a professional I frequent over a dozen or more of industry standard software that they don't teach as of yet: InDesign, InCopy, Flash, Flash Builder, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, After Effects, Muse, Audition, Toon Boom, Pro-Tools, Nuke, Cinema 4d and many more.

However, if you're looking for a powerful and cost effective alternative to Adobe I'd highly recommend Pixelmator - http://www.pixelmator.com - in lieu of photoshop and, the only company that I believe that could potentially give Adobe a run for their money, Affinity - https://affinity.serif.com - as an illustrator and design alternative. Affinity's current software is in a free beta so you can't beat the price :)

Thanks Jesse, but I'm a Windows guy :), and for me I just didn't like their terms and how locked in you were, at least with Corel, the software I'd use (Draw, Paint Shop Pro, Video Studio) are one time fees, which I like. But everything changes.
