Compile scala file with scalac?

The quiz question is:

You would type ____ HelloWorld.scala in order to compile a scala file called "HelloWorld"

I entered "scalac", but it was marked as incorrect. Why?

Note: If I enter "scala", it was accepted as correct. So, the auto-grader is definitely wrong ... the answer should be "scalac", not "scala".
