code question

I am not sure what might be wrong with my answer. To me it looks logical var money = 9; var today = 'Friday'

if ( money >= 100 || today === 'Friday' ) { alert("Time to go to the theater");
} else if ( money >= 50 || today === 'Friday' ) { alert("Time for a movie and dinner");
} else if ( money > 10 || today === 'Friday' ) { alert("Time for a movie");
} else if ( money < 9 || today === 'Friday' ) { alert("It's Friday, but I don't have enough money to go out");
} else { alert("This isn't Friday. I need to stay home."); }

script.js
var money = 9;
var today = 'Friday'

if ( money >= 100 || today === 'Friday' ) {
  alert("Time to go to the theater");
} else if ( money >= 50 || today === 'Friday' ) {
  alert("Time for a movie and dinner");
} else if ( money > 10 || today === 'Friday' ) {
  alert("Time for a movie");
} else if ( today !== 'Friday' ) {
  alert("It's Friday, but I don't have enough money to go out");
} else {
  alert("This isn't Friday. I need to stay home.");
}

Hi there! Let's just take a look at the first if statement:

if ( money >= 100 || today === 'Friday' ) {
  alert("Time to go to the theater");
}

What this translates to in English is: "If I have more than 100 or today is Friday, it's time to go to the theater!". This means only one of those has to be true for you to go to the theater. If you had 0 money you'd still try to go! What you want is for this sentence to say "If I have more than 100 and today is Friday, it's time to go to the theater!". So you need to be using the AND operator here.

Give it another shot with these hints in mind! :sparkles:

thanks Jennifer

The issue is the || statement. This is an or statement and, as long as one or the other is met the condition happens.

So that is why this is appearing.

alert("Time to go to the theater");

You need to replace it with an && statement which means both conditions have to be met and go down from their to fix all the conditions.

thanks

Thank you both for the hints. I passed the test !
