Cloning a 2d ArrayList

How do I clone a 2d list without referencing it? The cloning constructor doesn't properly clone 2d lists.

ArrayList<ArrayList<Object>> oldList = new ArrayList<>();
ArrayList<ArrayList<Object>> newList = new ArrayList<>(oldList);

In the above code, the two arrays have different hashcodes, but the items in the lists have equal hashcodes. I know that I could loop over the items in oldList, and add them through the copy contructor into newList, but I want to know if there is an easier way to do it.
