Challenge Task 2 of 3

Next, create a field in the TwitterThread class for your new Handler, and populate that field in the 'run' method.

i think i have created and populated the field in the TwitterThread class but still getting errors. can someone help

MainActivity.java
public class MainActivity extends Activity {
  Button button;
  TwitterClient twitterClient = new TwitterClient();

  @Override
  public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

    final TwitterThread twitterThread = new TwitterThread();
    twitterThread.setName("TwitterThread");
    twitterThread.start();

    button = (Button) findViewById(R.id.update_button);
    button.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
      @Override
      public void onClick(View v){

      }
    });
  }
    class TwitterHandler extends Handler {
      public void handleMessage(Message msg) {
        twitterClient.update();
  }
    }

  class TwitterThread extends Thread {
    TwitterHandler myHandler;
    @Override
    public void run() {
      myHandler = TwitterHandler ();
      Looper.prepare ();
      Looper.loop ();

    }
  }
}

in your run() method, you forgot to add the "new" keyword for the instantiation "myHandler"

I got it to work with this:

class TwitterThread extends Thread {

private TwitterHandler myHandler;

@Override
public void run(){

  myHandler = new TwitterHandler();
   Looper.prepare();
  Looper.loop();

}} class TwitterHandler extends Handler{

@Override
public void handleMessage(Message msg) {
        twitterClient.update();

thanks Shea
