What am I doing wrong? I tried putting margin as "margin: 0 50%", but it keeps giving me an error.

Set the top and bottom to 0
And left and right to auto
The coding goas clockside.
So : Top, Right, Bottom, Left
Shortcuts : 10px 20px; - meaning, 10px top and bottom, and 20px right and left.

You need to put it as
margin: 0 auto;
You dont need a value, 0 is zero, it could be anything 0% , 0em, 0px. 0 is nothing ;) so dont need value. as 0px is nothing .
You still need 0

28,888 PointsIn addition to the margin auto that other posters have mentioned you'll want to make sure you specify a unit on the width of the container.

Any time you're specifying a number for size that is not zero you should really specific it's unit. The only time this isn't true (from what I'm aware) is when you're dealing with line-height since line height is actual a multiple rather than a unit size.

It works without width, when i align my text center, my footer copyright or my full width image and want text, u dont need to specify width.

28,888 PointsWithout a width your essentially centering something that is 100% wide. See http://codepen.io/timknight/pen/zvNpyz for example... and try removing the px on the width and you'll see what happens.

And yes your right, we are talking about something else. Im talking about the margin and you about his width that didnt has px and i havent seen :) problem solved :)
