Catching a value error

def add(a, b): return float(a) + float(b)

try:
num = add(input("Enter number A: "), input("Enter number B: ")) except ValueError: return None else: return num

what is wrong with this code?

trial.py 
def add(a, b):
    return float(a) + float(b)



try:  
    num = add(input("Enter number A: "), input("Enter number B: "))
except ValueError:
    return None
else:
    return num

There are a few issues here:

  • all code for this challenge should be part of the function
  • the values used by the function are passed as arguments, there will be no need to input anything
  • for the value error to be detected, the format conversions must occur inside the "try" section
