String response = "";  //make variable

    do {
      response = console.readLine("Do you understand do while loops?"); //prompt here and set the response

        }while (response.equalsIgnoreCase("no")); //ignore casing of the response

console.printf("Because you said %s, you passed the test!",response); //give the reply

The System.exit(0) line will cause it to exit the entire program during the first loop every time- that line isn't needed. It should look like this:

// I have initialized a java.io.Console for you. It is in a variable named console.
String response = "";

do{
  response = console.readLine("Do you understand do while loops?");
} while(response.equalsIgnoreCase("No"));

console.printf("Because you said %s, you passed the test!\n", response);
