Hello I wanted to know if you could use music from either a celebrity or indie, and artwork without asking for permission, but you mention them in your credits.

33,856 PointsThis is an interesting topic, but I don't think you are allowed to without permission. Asking for permission and not receiving an answer can mean no you cannot. However, my thoughts are that most artists would not mind since you're promoting their music. Keep in mind that a more serious issue would be if you somehow made money using the song without somehow compensating the artist.
I'm however almost certain the artist or the record label has to take specific action against nonpersonal use. Not anyone can come to you and ask to take it down. There is a lot more information on this if you do a Google search.

42,016 Pointsif the music has been licensed for use by everyone then its ok (such as the creative commons license). But most music is not. most of the time you need permission. Even if your app is free and you dont make any money off it you need permission to use it if it hasnt been licensed for use by everyone. See this page on the creative commons website for music you can use for free
If you use someone's music without permission and they notice it, you could face litigation.

22,989 PointsThis issue can be very tough sometimes. You can sometimes get away with fair use, and sometimes you can't. If you want to know more about copy right, I would suggest the copy right course here on tree house.
I would say as a rule of thumb just to keep you safe, don't use copyrighted music unless it's has some certain licenses or you have written permission from the owner of the song. A good website to check out:

No you can't as you need a license that proves you have permission to use their content for your own purposes, you would need to find a resource local to your country as I don't believe you can get a license from an outside source and that has services for obtaining music copyright licenses that basically show you've been authorized to use that persons content.

42,016 Pointsthere are tons of different programs. Garage Band is popular. Reaper is a free DAW thats very well designed (the company that makes reaper was founded by the creator of winamp.) if you google music software you will find a lot of different programs you can use.

22,989 PointsYou can also search for music that is in the public domain. If it's in the public domain, then it's free to use and you don't have to worry about asking for permission.
