Can I run ruby on rails in atom as my ide instead of the standard one provided?

basically im trying to setup ruby on rails for atom. That way I can already be accustomed to my own ide for future clients.

Not sure what you are trying to do. Atom is a text editor and not a full fledged IDE. Are there specific things you are trying to do; if so, you could look into plugins (specifically ruby plugins). Otherwise, you might want to check out an IDE for ruby / rails like the following:
