Would the best solution be to eliminate the badge reader as it appears to serve no purpose?

2,211 PointsBecause the electrical lining is made that way for the switch box not to ray out. Plus, most work staff in their usual surroundings will disregard the badge and know of that internally.

5,561 PointsIt is an example for you to understand usability and how most people understand the relationship between things (badge reader+door) and the "standards" that people WILL WANT to find when using your website or app!

15,604 PointsThe handle on the door next to the card reader also serves to open that door. The card reader unlocks the door. Card reader + handle equals two clicks in either scenario.

17,663 PointsIt is possible that the push handle does nothing and is locked, until the badge reader is used. In a secure environment, locks and badge readers are necessary. To eliminate their existence is to make your office environment less secure.
Considering that one of the Treehouse offices is in 'keep Portland weird' Oregon, this is not a recommended solution. Too many hipsters waltzing through buildings on longboards. Might spill a coffee on staff computers. Hope that helps! ;)
