There is absolutely no shame in beginning with a framework like bootstrap or foundation. These are well-vetted and community supported projects and are intended to be a starting point for professionals.
Also, deconstructing these frameworks - pulling them apart and putting them together in new ways - is a great way to reinforce solid design techniques and practices. Fork them, play with them, and share your results with the community!
